Google Maps Introduces Long-Awaited Feature for Drivers: Automatic Parking Location Saving

Google Maps has launched a new feature that drivers have been waiting for: automatic parking location tracking. According to the announcement by Rio Akasaka, senior product manager at Google Maps, all you need to do is connect your iPhone to your car via USB, Bluetooth, or CarPlay.

When you finish driving and exit your vehicle, Google Maps automatically marks your parking spot, and the saved location is retained for up to 48 hours.

When you return to your car and start driving again, the parking icon disappears automatically.

From Manual to Automatic

Previously, users could manually save their parking location. What’s new is that this process is now completely automatic, eliminating the need for manual input.

Google has also rolled out an update that allows users to replace the default “P” parking location marker with custom vehicle icons of their choice. Custom vehicle icons were first introduced in 2020, and this year eight new vehicle designs were added to the collection.

iOS Exclusive for Now

The automatic parking location saving feature is currently available only on iOS. While Android does have a parking reminder system, the parking icon doesn’t disappear automatically unless the user manually removes it.

This new automation makes tracking parking locations significantly more effortless for Google Maps users, streamlining a task that many drivers face daily.
